Shapiro meets Bowen and Satir:  The use of EMDR in couples therapy

Description

Using a trauma model of relationships related to Bowen's concept of differentiation, this presentation will specify the characteristics of couples for whom EMDR may be a valuable, perhaps necessary, component of couples treatment. It will provide a rationale for proposing EMDR for one or both partners (individually, of course) while maintaining therapeutic balance and focus on the couple. It will describe the development of appropriate targets for reprocessing and the incorporation of EMDR-initiated changes into couples' interaction. All of this with case examples.
